We Can’t Afford Four More Years of Trump, Bloomberg Says
The former New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has officially announced his White House bid in a video statement Sunday. The 77-year-old billionaire declares himself as a centrist and an alternative to the former vice president Joe Biden.
Bloomberg pointed out that he is running for president to rebuild the United States and to restore faith in the dream that defines us as a nation.”
America cannot afford four more years of Trump’s reckless and unethical actions,” Bloomberg said, highlighting that the current president is a ”’threat to our nation and our values.”
Bloomberg also added that our country might never recover from a potential second term of Trump.
Earlier this year, the ex-New York City mayor has categorically declined rumors that he would run for president. According to unnamed sources close to him, he changed his mind as he did not think that another Democratic candidate could defeat Trump.
The video announcement of Bloomberg’s White House bid is part of an initial USD 34 million ad buy, produced by Jimmy Siegel. According to Advertising Analytics, it was the largest single week expenditure the company had ever tracked.
The video narrator emphasized that Bloomberg had to work hard to build his media empire from a single room to a global media. The main aim of the ad was to contrast the financial identities of Trump and Bloomberg.
The ad also promotes Bloomberg’s record as a three-time mayor of New York City, especially in the aftermath of 9/11. The ad also features his post-mayoral work as active gun control and against the coal lobby campaigner.
Closing in on a shot of Trump Tower, the narrator references a nation ”where the wealthy will pay more taxes, and the middle class will struggle to get their fair share.”
It is an indirect criticism of the current president, who is opposing the release of his tax returns. On the other hand, Michael Bloomberg had always made his tax returns public when he was mayor. His spokesperson confirmed he would make them public now as he runs for president.
Due to his late entry, Bloomberg confirmed he would not compete in the first voting competitions in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina. He would instead focus on the primaries on March 3, also known as Super Tuesday.
