Helicopters, Gliders, And Other Aircraft Are Coming To Flight Simulator

Aug 26, 2022

An official date has been set for the update for the Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition: November 11. Twelve new aircraft, 20 older missions from the game, four sizable corporate airports, ten glider airports, and fourteen heliports will all be included in the update.

The two aircraft types that users of Microsoft Flight Simulator most desire to have included are helicopters and gliders, both of which have been missing since the release of the most recent edition in 2020. A true full-size airliner will also be present in response to popular demand: The Airbus A-310 is said to have “almost every button working exactly as planned.”

But the historical aircraft are what really thrills me: In particular, the Hughes H-4 Hercules, also referred to as the Spruce Goose and the largest wooden plane and seaplane ever built, will be included in Flight Simulator. In reality, it only made one flight. Versions that use Flight Simulator will fly much farther.

This massive upgrade will also feature seven historical objects, including the Spirit of St. Louis, the Douglas DC-3, the illustrious Wright Flyer, and more.

The legendary Halo Pelican dropship was added to the typically incredibly realistic simulator as part of a series of updates to celebrate Flight Simulator’s 40th birthday (yes, the first one was released in 1982).

Additionally, a number of Local Legends aircraft were released during the 40th Anniversary year. The 1919 All-Metal Junkers F 13 is the most recent of those, and it is released today along with the first-ever cities update, which adds photogrammetry-modeled realism to the German cities of Hanover, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Bonn, and Cologne.

Kindly admire a couple more of Flight Simulator’s breathtaking videos as we wait for any other airplane information to come out of Gamescom.
