Gymnast Samantha Cerio Suffers Two Broken Legs In Shocking Incident — Video Of Her Career-Ending Moment Goes Viral
Samantha Cerio, a senior gymnast, studying at Auburn University, has suffered a horrific injury that might put the future of her career under question.
Cerio was practicing a routine series of exercises, when at one point she fell hard to the ground, breaking both legs.
Medics on site immediately escorted her off the premises on a stretcher.
The exact nature of the athlete’s injuries is not yet known, but reports indicate that she has likely broken both of her legs and dislocated both knees.
Future prognoses for her treatment have not been announced yet, although many remain hopeful that she will manage to pull through the situation eventually.
Cerio’s career has so far been going in a great direction, as she was recently named a co-scholar athlete of the year for SEC.
This has painted the current situation in an even more grim light, prompting many to question what the girl might do if she has to deal with a prolonged recovery period.
Many fans and supporters have shared their words of encouragement on social media, and it looks like Cerio at least has a strong support network to rely on if nothing else.
The athlete herself has commented on her situation following the incident as a large number of people were regularly questioning her and inquiring into her current status.
Cerio said that her career has ended. She wrote: “After 18 years I am hanging up my grips and leaving the chalk behind. I couldn’t be prouder of the person that gymnastics has made me to become. It’s taught me hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication, just to name a few. It’s given me challenges and roadblocks that I would have never imagined that has tested who I am as a person. It may not have ended the way I had planned, but nothing ever goes as planned.”
Her team eventually finished fourth at the regional finals, pushing through with their best efforts despite being a teammate short.
Some members of the team have stated that they felt exhausted after the incident.
Auburn coach Jeff Graba said: “It was pretty tough to watch. She’s a trouper. The last thing she said was, ‘Go help the girls.’ The girls rallied around her. They’re doing this for her right now.”
He added: “We wanted more than anything to do this for her. I think we were out of gas. Emotionally spent. But I thought the girls fought hard. They did a great job.”
Can Cerio build on her following to start a new career in media, yes or no?
