Donald Trump Bullies Greta Thunberg on Twitter after She Became TIME’s Person of the Year
Greta Thunberg, the teen environmental activist from Sweden, was named TIME magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019.
TIME honored her for establishing a global environmental campaign that turned into an international movement. The magazine also added that at the age of 16, she has already addressed heads of state at the UN, met with the Pope, and inspired 4 million people worldwide to join the global climate strike on September 20.
Greta Thunberg is the youngest person ever to receive the award. This year, she beat out Trump, who was also on TIME’s shortlist, along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Ukraine whistleblower, and Hong Kong protesters.
U.S. President Donald Trump called Thunberg’s win ”ridiculous,” pointing out that she needs to focus on her anger management problem, to chill and to go to a movie with a friend.
Following the President’s tweet, Greta changed her biography, saying that she was a teenager working on her anger management issues. ”Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”
That is not the first time when Greta changes her Tweeter bio to reflect the criticism of the world leaders of her.
Earlier this week, she changed her bio to ”Peralta” ( the Portuguese word for ”brat”) after the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro criticized her about her comments that the indigenous people have lost their lives because they were defending the Amazon forest. Bolsonaro accused media of giving ”this pirralha” too much attention.
In September, President Trump posted a video of her speaking emotionally at the UN conference, adding: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”
She changed her bio accordingly: “A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”
In October, she changed her bio to ”a kind but poorly informed teenager.” That is how Russian President Putin had referred to her at a conference in Moscow.
In September, President Trump shared a video of her speech at the UN summit and sarcastically commented that she looked like ”a very happy young girl looking to a bright and wonderful future.” She then changed her bio accordingly.
”What kind of a President bullies a teenager,” former Vice President Joe Biden tweeted, highlighting that Donald Trump may learn a thing or two about leadership from Greta.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with President Trump that Greta Thunberg should chill and solve her anger management issue?
